# Reminders

Reminders are the bot's way of trying to remind people to set their time zone.

Reminders are sent to users when they react to a message with a [mentioned time](/time-zone-bot/time-conversions.md) or they [mention a time](/time-zone-bot/time-conversions.md) and they got a saved time zone - unless they have opted out of reminders with the [`/reminders`](/time-zone-bot/commands/user-commands/reminders.md) command or guild reminders weren't enabled in the [`/setup`](/time-zone-bot/commands/server-commands/setup.md) command.

Reminders look like this, and are sent in DMs to the user.
